Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oil: Are They the Same Thing?

Introduction to Hemp: Two Different Oils

In just a short amount of time, CBD oil has grown in both usage and popularity. It is used to help a variety of issues, both medical, mental health, and psychological. However, as CBD oil continues to gain popularity, so does its compatriot: hemp oil. If you’re a person who is new to the world of CBD and hemp, you may wonder about the differences and which one is the better option for you and your family.

Here is an in-depth analysis of CBD and hemp oil, what makes them different from each other, and which one is better to use.

CBD Oil vs. Hemp Oil vs. Hemp Seed Oil

If this is your first time using these products, it’s important for you to have a basic understanding of what they are. We’ll start off with CBD. This is one of many cannabinoids that are extracted from the hemp cannabis Sativa plant and contributes to the soothing effects of the entire cannabis plant.

CBD itself cannot get you high, but depending on which cannabis plant it is derived from, your CBD oil will have more or less THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive chemical responsible for producing a high, or euphoric feeling.

CBD can either be extracted from the hemp or high THC cannabis plant.  While many believe these to be two different species, they are actually just different names for cannabis, a flowering plant of the Cannabaceae family. The important quality that sets the hemp plant apart from the other forms of the plant is the amount of THC it contains.

Therefore, in legal terms, CBD products derived from hemp contain 0.3% or less THC, while CBD products derived from the other forms of the plant have been bred to contain over 0.3% THC.

At Times Confusing

If you’re using hemp-derived CBD oil, then “CBD oil” and “hemp oil” can be used interchangeably (or altogether). However, this can bring confusion to folks new to CBD when they find results for hemp seed oil. This particular type of oil is processed by cold-pressing hemp seeds, producing a thick oil that is rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids (especially omega-3 and omega-6). While hemp seed oil is a great supplement for heart health by improving total cholesterol, it does not contain any CBD and lacks the therapeutic benefits of the compound. Hemp seed oil can be used as a supplement with our high phytocannabinoid oil to get the great benefits of CBD, terpenes, and other cannabinoids.

Benefits of Hemp CBD Oil

Although hemp seed oil provides essential nutrients that may not be met through a regular diet, CBD shows promising results in improving the overall well-being of consumers. These include:

  • Focus and concentration improvement

So, if you’re seeking more noticeable benefits for your mind and body, hemp CBD oil is the way to go. Despite the potential benefits listed, remember that everyone will have a different response to CBD. Research is still underway in regards to how effective CBD is in the treatment of various conditions. If you plan on taking CBD oil for any medical purposes, we highly recommend consulting with your doctor before trying it.

Types of CBD Oil

There are three main types of CBD oil available: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate. BluPeak Botanics offers hemp CBD oil products that fall into the former two categories.

  • Full-spectrum CBD oil contains all compounds found in the cannabis plant, including terpenes and THC (albeit at low levels)

  • Broad-spectrum CBD oil has several compounds but does not include THC

  • CBD isolate contains only CBD and nothing else. This method uses harsh chemicals. At our lab, we only make distillate products.

While it can be difficult to trust that your CBD products contain the ingredients that are stated on the label, with BluPeak Botanics, our process for extracting and testing oil is pure and consistent. Learn more about our processes on youtube or on our website.  We extract with the most organic process with our CO2 extractor. Our chemist and pastry chef product formulator curate the best ingredients and test in-house and 3rd party testing to ensure effective and great tasting products. Which Oil is Better?

So, do you need CBD oil or hemp seed oil? One isn’t necessarily better than the other, but as discussed, they both serve very different purposes. Either way, we cannot stress enough how important it is to consult your doctor before taking one of these products. Once you’ve confirmed that neither product will worsen a pre-existing medical condition or interact with your prescribed medications, you can make a more informed decision on your purchase.
